THE NAME ALIOLI IS DERIVED FROM THE CASTELLANO SPANISH SPELLING OF THE TWO PRINCIPAL INGREDIENTS; GARLIC AND OLIVE OIL.
Its origins are traced back to east / north east of Spain, south of France, southern regions of Italy (Calabria & Sicilia) and parts of the middle East.
To emulsify and stabilise the product, the addition of egg and lemon juice is added, which is why some liken Alioli to a garlic mayonnaise. This can be true for consistency but certainly not taste. A good alioli is unmistakable and would never be confused with mayonnaise.
Ubiquitous is most tapas bars in Spain, it is often offered and served with a basket of crusty white bread, when you order a cool beer or wine or before your meal arrives.
Our little yellow tub of rich and indulgent alioli is available www.victusemporium.co .uk Packed full of flavour and made with extra virgin olive oil and natural garlic, it is a must for summer picnics and BBQ’s. To find out more, please feel free to contact us today.
